By now you've probably heard some things about a television drama series featured on Netflix called "13 reasons why" (13RW). The premise of the show is that a teenage boy receives a set of 13 audio recordings made by his friend just before she killed herself. Between the 13 'reasons' for dying and the experience of the other kids, the series hits many teen mental health topics. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) encourages parents to be willing to watch the series with kids and have "thoughtful conversations about the show... [and] Process the issues..." Hopefully, the expert commentary has convinced you to talk about the show with your teen. However, do you feel ready for the potentially tough conversations ahead? I shall be honest. I would not have been prepared to talk about all the complicated issues that come up in the show when I first watched it, and I'm a suicide prevention specialist.So, I did a ton of research to write this book and be like your coach.
