Here we learn of the Chinese revolution that brought a Christian Emperor to power and his reforms that led to the immigration of many Chinese to America seeking a new life, new wealth and new power. Only to find their lives and promises forsaken by treacherous "human traffickers" in a game of Chinese roulette. Recounted are the variant lives and purposes of Zhau My-Lee in the highly cultured environment of his father's home and Apothecary, and Zhau's protagonist, Zing Tao-Woo, from the hard sea coast of Guangdong Provence.
