Description

Abstract: On January 1, 2011, the City of Los Angeles, California put in effect a set of mandatory green building standards for new construction, alterations, and additions to residential and commercial structures. It is officially referred to as "Article 9, Green Building Code, of Los Angeles Municipal Code." Article 9 is applicable to all applicants for building permits for residential and commercial structures located within the jurisdiction of the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Currently, there are no known studies assessing the economic impact of Article 9 on the consumer. In this thesis we perform a comparative analysis of residential construction including and excluding green system implementation to identify the impact that Article 9, Division 4 has on the developer and the general contractor.
