This story is a spin-off to The Mermaid and her King, which should be read prior to reading this novel. Eric Matthews hasn't been able to get Brooke Ward out of his mind since he met her six months ago when she flew to Oahu, Hawaii to help their mutual friends, Skyla and Chase, through a crisis. He named her "heaven" as soon as their eyes met, and he can't shake the desire to be with her. The problem is, Brooke Ward has a boyfriend. She's very much under his controlling hold, and Eric would like nothing more than to get her away from him. An opportunity arises for Eric to fly to San Diego, where Brooke lives. Obligated to go to dinner with her Boyfriend Rob, and her, Eric discovers that Rob is treating her worse than he suspected. He spends the remainder of his trip convincing Brooke she should break-up with him and move to Hawaii. When she gains the courage to leave Rob, he appears and threatens to withhold information she needs to find the older brother who she was separated from as a child, if she refuses to take him back. Brooke's torn between hurting Eric and losing a chance at finding her only sibling. Returning to Oahu, Hawaii, to be in Skyla and Chase's wedding, Brooke tries to reconnect with Eric, but he's brokenhearted and wants no part of being close to her until devastating news for Brooke puts her right into his arms. Eric decides she's worth the effort to show being controlled isn't really living. He works diligently to prove to Brooke she's worthy of love and respect, teaching her to go after what she wants through a string of adventures and his so called "intense motivational touch therapy." Will she find her brother? Will Eric succeed at helping Brooke discover her voice? Find out if they get more than they bargained for in this touching story about love, friendship, and the true meaning of family, but most importantly, about the value of self-worth. This novel is for mature audiences due to harsh language and descriptive sex scenes.
