"Bulimia Nervosa (BN) tends to develop during adolescence and 1%-3% of females struggle with this disorder (APA, 2000). Given the increasing evidence of childhood obesity and adolescent dieting, the incident rate of BN may continue to rise in the future (Battle & Brownell, 1996; Rosen, 2010; Stice, 1994). The purpose of this project was to propose an outpatient treatment group for females, ages 18-23, with BN. The literature has identified many risk factors that contribute to the development and maintenance of BN. Research suggests that emotional dysregulation is one of the main contributing factors for eating disorders (Hayaki, 2009; Markey & Vander Wal, 2007; Powell & Thelen, 1995). The goal of the proposed treatment program is to develop and apply basic skills that will decrease emotional dysregulation. Utilizing Marsha Linehan's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), group members are taught the core concepts of mindfulness meditation, distress tolerance, and emotional regulation." -- Abstract, p. 1.
