This is a group of Doyle's short stories. It's more varied than many of the collections of his works. The stories are set in countries around the world and are many different genres. It includes...The Gully of Bluemansdyke - It's not so much a mystery as a tale of justice and vengeance. It's good. I just wish he'd expanded it to a novel instead of leaving it a short story. The Parson of Jackman's Gulch - That one is fun. Rather unexpected after the beginning story. My Friend the Murderer - It's the weakest story of the lot. The villain in the first story whines about the treatment he receives as a government "peach". I think Doyle was trying to be funny, but it just didn't work for me. Not only that, but the language was the worst I have ever seen in his works. I won't be reading that one again. The Silver Hatchet - (view spoiler) Not that you'd suspect that from the beginning. It was just a little freaky. The Man from Archangel - I'd say it's a gothic romance. I don't like gothic romances. But if you like that sort of thing, you would probably say it was good. The Little Square Box - There are so many things that I want to say about this story, but I can't. Anything I would say would give away everything. I will say Doyle completely surprised me. It was really good.A Night Among The Nihilists - Nice rollicking little adventure. Never say die! No matter how crazy the adventure you stumble on.Includes a biography of the author.
