Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Johnnie Joyce Barfield Roberts spent most of her youth in Grambling, Louisiana. She began writing poetry and short stories as early as the age of ten as a way to escape the hardships of growing up in the South during the Civil Rights Movement. She accepted Jesus into her life as a teen, and shortly thereafter, God called her into the ministry. As a retired disabled veteran of both the U.S. Air Force and United States Postal Service, she devotes her time to her husband, Johnny D. Roberts; her children, Shamar, Joi, and Desmond; and her stepson, Damien. Johnnie attends The Gathering Church in Omaha, Nebraska, under the leadership of Pastor Jackie L. Barfield. This is Johnnie's first published work. It is a collection of poems about life, mistakes, searching, desires, and longings.
