Blackwater Canyon, a story of the west and the oil of the Oklahoma Territory, moves the organization achieved and lessons learned from the west of the eighteen hundreds, into the nineteen hundreds to help achieve the expectations for the twentieth century. Unhappy with his life as a lawman, United States Marshal Cass Bowdeen, with his horse trainer friend, Sly Comanche, sign on as scouts with a wagon train heading west from Independence, Missouri. Marshal Bowdeen is retained as a life long Marshal while looking for the opportunity to establish a ranch in his future. Necessity on the trail has Marshal Bowdeen swear in Sly Comanche as his Deputy. Indians, thieves, murderers, disease, hunger, highway-men and lust found in the eighteen hundreds are encountered. Breaking away from the trail leading west, and moving into the Oklahoma Territory, new relationships and challenges between cattle and oil interests initiate the new direction for the two lawmen’s lives. There are charming encounters with One Chance, Harry T. Markum, Federal Judge. Horseback, William Baldwin, attorney-at-large with nature. Marshal W. W. Webster, Chief United States Marshal who helps build and sustain the dedication of the Marshals Bowdeen and Comanche to the establishment of law and order in the Oklahoma Territory. The ending of the novel confirms a central human quality any optimistic soul feels most people are capable of; a desire and ability to forgive. The language, interrelationships, expectations, desires, accomplishments and failures are some of the forces of life and of any era that will capture the interest of the reader. These ingredients inevitably lead the reader to the satisfactory conclusion; this story was in all ways, entertaining.
