Hello, I am an artist and a mother. My two worlds collided when my nine year old, Max McMichaels, started spending a lot of time in my studio. I started giving him 30"x24" canvases and although I had planned to paint over his drawings one day to use the canvases, I couldn't help but see the collaboration potential of his drawings. I started painting them, "crossing the lines" of his marks but maintaining his composition and sensibility while injecting my own painting style. It has been a challenging and inspiring project to work with one of my favorite artists! This coloring book allows you to collaborate with Max and gives the viewer his raw drawings to look at during exhibitions where the paintings are shown. A selection of the finished paintings will be shown at Artspace in Raleigh, NC from December 4th-January 8th 2016. I hope to show this body of work in other galleries sometime in 2016-2017.
