A Norman Conquest ghost storyOn a beach near her home, Barbara Maitland meets Peter Strickland who is staying with friends of hers. He has writer's block about a murder mystery he was trying to write and Barbara suggests the story about a ghost in a nearby Martello Tower built initially by the Romans and then repaired and extended by a Norman, Deavlin Delacroix. A jealous noble and his son, Daniel, in King William's court, sets about using treason as their means of obtaining the hamlet just outside of Scarborough which Deavlin has nurtured into a thriving community. Deavlin marries a beautiful woman, Masilde, who dies of her injuries received at Daniel's and his father's plotting hands. But, before she dies, she pronounces a terrible curse on the infamous pair together with their confederates. Over the centuries, the curse becomes fact.
