Well, gentle readers, I hope you've enjoyed your journey with me as much as I have telling you of it. There are many times that I fought technology; some of the time technology won. I had a listing for which twenty-five agents had shown, but no offers had been received. A gentleman and his wife, who were residents of London, England, saw the property listing in the Internet, made an offer, and flew into Houston and promptly closed on the home. Hooray for technology! Some of my most pleasant and enjoyable clients have been CEOs and their families, many of who were relocating from New York City. Most are amazed at the lovely houses that have been available at great prices, compared with the cost of homes in the New York area. Some of them have even sent referrals, which are always welcome and encouraged. In closing, I must tell you of one experience that will remain forever in my heart and mind not all my experiences have been difficult or bizarre. There was a time, before attending real estate school, when I was absolutely awestricken by a beautiful home which was located in a nearby subdivision. It was dark red saltbox style with a beautifully landscaped yard, featuring a split-rail fence, eagle statue, many flowering herbs and ornamentals, and a flagpole which was always showing Old Glory flapping in the breeze. I would drive past this house at every opportunity, whether happy or sad, in good weather and bad; I simply adored the house and was made happy just viewing its exterior. As they say, "It's a small world." The owners of this house were friends of a friend. I had not told my friend of my frequent journeys down the street simply to view the house. In addition, I didn't even realize that the owners were close to my friend. Anyway, my friend called me and said that her friends, the homeowners, were going to sell the house, had interviewed some agents, but had not yet made a decision as to whom they would give the listing. "Would you be interested in viewing the house?" "Would I? Do bears live in the woods?" An appointment was made and as soon as Mrs. Homeowner came to the door, I told her about my infatuation with their house and how I had stalked it for several years. She walked me through the house, and I thought that I had died and arrived in heaven. She told me that our mutual friend thought that I would be the ideal agent to show their house. It was a nearly perfect opportunity as it had been featured in several national magazines. The home sold in a few months to another antique collector. After the closing, the former homeowners built another New England style house farther out in the countryside. They remain close friends; in fact, we encounter them frequently in church and were invited to attend their daughter's wedding a few years ago. So, as you can tell, it's not all a nightmare; sometimes you do get to meet some great people.
