Hi there, firstly thank you for purchasing my book and supporting a small artist. I am an English artist based in the North of England and have always had a real passion for art to which I have studied for many years, however, life happened I found less and less time to create until rare occasions arise that allowed me the opportunity. Fast forward to March 2020, a lockdown has been imposed, stores have closed, the streets are empty, and time has stood still for months and continues into October 2020 with many in isolation. In these months and with new laws imposed all distractions cease to exist for this Artist in particular, it opened new opportunities to create anything and everything I wanted. In my book you will see the artworks I have created during this period and the various styles in which I work in. I am an artist that works in many mediums and I use a broad range of techniques. my personal favourite during this time has been Stippling Artwork and this newfound technique has challenged me to progress myself in a new practice. As an Artist, I draw and paint subjects that I am inspired by and purely paint for myself and subjects that appeal to me. I do create commission pieces upon request but mainly create for myself. The Octopus piece was the very first piece of art I created during this lockdown and was the beginning of my new artist identity and exploration with Stippling. This led me to new ideas one after another very rapidly and became some of my most popular pieces to date. I personally like the monochrome look that stippling pieces offer and this makes the dot work stand out in the pieces, creating details using different sized nibs to capture the play against dark and light within the shadows of the image that brings them to life. I have chosen ocean and Arctic animals because my mind connects them with freedom, lockdown and isolation has given me so much freedom to create and be an artist once again, and like ocean creatures, I have been free to explore new depths at my will. This led me to think about other majestic wild creatures and a land and amphibian creature series began, I found myself creating these beautiful creatures in stippling because each one I have chosen has a long journey through life not so different to that of a human when you break it down to its raw form. Both animals and humans hunt/work to feed themselves and their families and along the way both will face many obstacles but continue the journey ahead, fierce, majestic and glorious. All artwork has been created with nature in mind and exploring it in its purest form whilst portraying a personal connection I feel to each one for various reasons, I have enjoyed creating and being able to share my artwork with the world but most of all I found my Freedom in Isolation.
