Although there has been much debate about the pros and cons of hospital based training for nurses versus the current tertiary based nursing education model, this book is not intended to promote one over the other. Rather it is a collection of memories and reminiscences from a nurse who trained during the early 1970¿s in the hospital training system which was formerly known as the Florence Nightingale method. Whenever I meet another nurse who trained in a similar fashion to myself, we immediately seem to have a bond based on our shared history of nursing. Each and every one of us has a favourite story or anecdote to tell and the listener always grasps the meaning of it without the storyteller having to explain ¿ such are the shared experiences of the sisterhood. Apart from my own recollections, I have asked other nurses of my vintage to contribute to this narrative, by sharing their favourite or most memorable memories of these days gone by.
