A natural history guide of the region of the Southern Grampians Shire, Victoria, produced by members of the Hamilton Field Naturalists Club with text and images describing over 90 different locations within 90 kilometres of Hamilton. The guide provides information on the regions five main landscapes within four bioregions (Victorian Volcanic Plains- VVP, Dundas Tablelands - DT, Greater Grampians - GG and the Glenelg Plain - GP). The landscapes represented in the nature guide are the Basalt Plains (VVP) - studded with volcanic cones, lakes and swamps; the Grampians Ranges (GG) & Plains (VVP & DT) abrupt sandstone ramparts and sandy flats; the Parrie Yaloak Plains & Swamps (DT); the Laterised Tablelands (DT) - dissected remains of the old land surface; and the Cobboboonee Basaltic Tablelands (VVP & GP) with tall forests and swamps. The nature guide also describes significant native grasslands existing throughout the region over the differing soils; their flora reflects the different substrates.The nature guide provides maps and directions for locals and visitors to find their ways independently to the sites. It also provides comprehensive bird lists and plants lists for the region as well as a table indicating native mammals, reptiles and fish that have been recorded by Hamilton Field naturalists since the formation of the Hamilton Field Naturalist Club in 1958.
