Joseph Brant was a Mohawk Indian chief who was born in Ohio about 1742 and died 24 November 1807. This story tells about his early boyhood years and his relationship with Sir William Johnson, who married Brant's sister, Molly. Sir William sent Brant to the Moor Charity School at Lebanon, Connecticut, from which grew Dartmouth College. After the death of Sir William, Brant became, in 1774, secretary to Guy Johnson, superintendent of Indian Affairs, and when the American Revolution began he incited the Indians against the colonies. The story ... describes Brant's presence at the siege of Fort Stanwix, the Battle of Oriskany, the massacre at Cherry Valley, and other savage engagements ...
