Legacy of Letters is a collection of letters, journals, stories and autobiographies written by the Buck family of Virginia from 1852 to 1987. The book begins with an autobiography of William Calmes Buck which was written while living in Kentucky in 1852 and continues with the journal of his daughter Emma Buck in 1857 while staying with relatives in Front Royal, VA. During the civil war William Calmes Buck and his family wrote letters to each other and some of those letters have been preserved in the Warren Rifles Confederate Museum in Front Royal, Virginia. A selection of those letters have been transcribed and are included in this book. After the war the family continued to move west. Annie Elizabeth (Buck) Ray wrote a biography of her parents John Hickman Buck and Annie Zerada (Johnson) Buck and the account of their travels from Alabama to Arizona. She recounts in detail the adventures of her family while living in the desert outside of Tucson, AZ in the early 1900's. She also kept a detailed travel journal during move that she and her husband, Seth Ernest Ray, and their children made from Arizona to Michigan during the Depression in 1945. Several other stories and autobiographies are included and also a genealogy of the Buck family beginning with Charles Buck II from Buckton, VA These personal accounts in the words of the Buck family will give you a glimpse into the lives of ordinary Americans during the good and the bad times in the history of our country.
