Peter Thomas Eaton graduated from St. John Grammar School in Bergenfield, New Jersey, St. Cecelia Parochial Regional High School in Englewood, New Jersey, and The Guggenheim School of Aeronautics at New York University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering in 1957. He joined the Glen Martin Co. in Black River, near Baltimore, Maryland as a member of the engineering team that developed, and successfully flew The P6M, the world's first and only supersonic jet seaplane. He then transferred to the Martin engineering team that developed the famous Vanguard Unmanned Launch Vehicle that launched America's second satellite and defined the basic concepts that were later used by The Saturn / Apollo Moon Launch Vehicle. He then moved to The Taylor Research Center in Carderock, Maryland, as an engineer and eventually Director of The Transonic Wind Tunnel that was engaged in the design of several of the new jet aircraft and flight borne weapon systems used in the Vietnam War. He led the nationwide research laboratory team that designed the world's first cruise missile and its aircraft which included his development of the first computer program for aerodynamic analysis made possible by the advent of the then new IBM3060 computer. In 1966 he accepted an offer from NASA to assemble and lead a team to develop and launch large sounding rockets required by the emerging space science community developing experiments for flight on all subsequent satellites, observatories and solar system probes. Their crowning achievement was the launch of 34 rockets in 11 minutes into the first and only solar eclipse to occur over a launch site - NASA's main launch base at Wallops Island, Virginia, in March 1970. He was then appointed Manager of the Delta Unmanned Launch Vehicle Program - the NASA "workhorse" that launched all the principle U.S. and international civilian scientific, weather and communication satellites that made today's Internet and cell phone world pos
