January 1968: Judy, Hannah and Connie arrive to assist with the day to day running of an orphanage for street children in Saigon. However, their lives are about to change forever. This is a story about the experiences of three charity volunteers with very different backgrounds astute Judy Llewellyn from the South Wales valleys, happy go lucky upper class Connie McBride and East London Jew Hannah Rosenberg find themselves in Saigon as volunteers helping to look after orphaned and abandoned children in Saigon. During a bombing raid on the city, some of the residents of a hotel in the city and the nearby houses are killed, one of whom Judy decides appears suspicious. The authorities appear to be disinterested in the apparent murder and Judy is forced to use her acumen along with her two friends Connie and Hannah to identify the murderer without their help. Then there is the added complication of Ben who goes missing after the rocket attack on the Hotel Continental. Another key player, Ed Ball it is discovered is based in Manila where he has a large villa in secluded grounds and an import-export business in downtown Manila. The city is buzzing with news of the forthcoming Peace talks that are scheduled to be held in an upcountry city close to the border between North and South Vietnam and top-ranking army generals from both sides in the war are to attend. As a second murder takes place the girls are drawn into its investigation and international espionage and the peace talks themselves are seen to be in jeopardy.
