National Service High Jinks is a light-hearted account of a "Two year, three week and two day" stint of National Service from basic training to demob. After six weeks basic training with the Black Watch at Queens Barracks in Perth, Scotland the author was sent to Barnard Castle in Yorkshire. He was also based at Gravesend, Stiffkey, Lenton Hurst, Langham, Bostal Heath, Welbeck and Weybourne. The author has been able to recount so much, as if occurred yesterday (instead of over half a century ago) because he kept diaries and letters he wrote home at the time to his parents. A thoroughly enjoyable read. Includes interesting photographs and illustrations.
