Picturesque and historic Cramond is the site of the earliest recorded settlement in Scotland, and several millennia later was occupied by a Roman fort, evidence of which can still be seen today. An important aspect of the village's past was its industrial heritage, centring around what were originally watermills on the River Almond, later powered by steam.
