Ride with me on patrol in Portland, Oregon. When I applied for the position of police officer, an interviewer asked why? I replied, “Because being on the street in a patrol car is where it's at!” I still feel that way, but I can no longer be on the street in a patrol car. Wish I could. It is the good things for which our memories long, and being a police officer was nearly the best thing in the world. The stories in this book are all true, or as close to being true as they could be without reading like a police report. All the officers in the book were employed by the Portland Police Bureau except one. It was my supreme honor to be a member of the Portland Police Bureau and to work with the greatest group of people in the world. I miss the people as much as the job, itself. If you want to know what it is really like to be a cop, this book is for you. If you are a cop, you will find these stories interesting and fun. This book is safe for readers of all ages. Writing these stories down was like living them again. The entire experience of writing this book was fun. That's all. Should there be more? These stories are true. They are gripping accounts of my life as a Portland Police Officer. I will never be a police officer, again. But maybe once is enough for really great things.
