"Rankin’s Place: A Story of a Hero and Community Leader is a biography of James Alvin Rankin, Sr., a living legend in his beloved Fauquier County, Virginia. Jim Rankin grew up on a leased farm during the worst economic depression in our nation’s history. His family may have been dirt-poor farmers but Jim understood he could live the American Dream through courage, determination, hard work, honesty and perseverance. Jim Rankin first joined the United States Army at 17-years-old. He was a proud member of the 187 th Airborne who fought blood battles throughout the Korean Peninsula. When these battles were won, the 187 th Rakkasans were sent to put down the riots at the Koje-do POW Camp. Like his father, Jim Rankin felt it was his obligation to service his country. He was a real life paratrooper who rose from a Private to Master Sergeant in less than 11 months. In 1983, Jim Rankin decided he wanted to be an independent voice for the people of Fauquier County. For nine years, he was the Center District Representative on the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors. He was beholden to the people who elected him and not special interest groups. His principles were always fairness, openness, honesty and integrity. He was an outstanding representative who voted to improve the lives of his constituents and protect the rural beauty of Fauquier County. In 1966, Jim Rankin opened his first True Value Hardware Store. Over the next 57 years, his family owned Business Empire included hardware stores in Colonial Beach, King George and Winchester. His current store, Rankin’s Furniture celebrated its 32th year in business. Each store offered quality products, outstanding customer service and great prices. Rankin’s has been the one-stop shop for thousands of consumers who have consistently voted them “Best of Fauquier County” and “The Readers Choice.” Jim Rankin is a generous benefactor for a multitude of organizations and always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. As a humble man, he rarely speaks of his contributions. Nevertheless, he has made the difference in the lives of so many people in Fauquier County. James Alvin Rankin, Sr. is a hero, patriot, public servant and a Hall of Fame small businessman. This is his incredible life story!"--Amazon.com
