Abstract: In this thesis, I will examine Ron Silliman's ninety-eight page prose poem Ketjak. The author uses experimental literary tools, primarily parataxis and what he calls the new sentence, to form the constructs of a semiotic labyrinth. Through the use of parataxis and the new sentence, Silliman presents the navigator of the labyrinth with an array of quantitatively placed structures of ephemeral narratives, postmodern realism, and ideological capital. These three variables circulate through the corridors of the labyrinth at an accelerated, pointillistic rate. The examples of ideological capital, however, disrupt the proliferation of signs by acting as authoritative obstructions that must be breached.
