When this book was begun, its purpose was to reminisce about a number of the more influential Registered Holsteins witnessed over the years through work at public sales. In addition, such a book would allow for a more detailed study of the background of these cattle than the harried schedules of time gone by made possible. And this undertaking would also provide an opportunity to investigate the"impact" of the descendants of these cattle on present-day Holsteins. This was all to be done in one book. As the information accumulated, it became apparent that this would not be possible. The story of Quality Fobes Abbekerk Gay and her famous family, alone, stretched on until it reached book length. It was, therefore, decided to make "Gay's" story a book by itself,"SeedStock". A "Seed-Stock - II" is also available and Paclamar Astronaut is the lead-off, followed by a "cast" of many others, and including a story on "Winterthur". You may well wonder, as you turn these pages, why certain individuals (both cattle and people) were included, while others were left out. You will not, I am afraid, be alone in this quandary. The writer among others, will no doubt be wondering the same thing. My apologies for the "omissions". Perhaps some of these oversights can be corrected "next time around". All these pictures and stories bring back many wonderful memories. Some of the events seem almost as if they had taken place in another lifetime. But, they did not, and with renewing in print, they take on life once again to speak of accomplishments and contributions by participants that will ever be their legacy to the "seed-stock" of today and tomorrow and to all of us. It has been a great trip for me - this meander down memory lane - I hope it will be for you too.
