Description

Abstract: The purpose of this project was to design a program, identify potential funding sources, and write a grant proposal to secure funding for a support group program for caregivers coping with their child diagnosed with autism. The prevalence of children diagnosed with autism in the past 20 years has increased tremendously. Approximately 1 in 150 children in the United States have been diagnosed with autism. The goal of the program is to empower and educate the caregivers of children diagnosed with autism in order to increase coping skills and reduce the stress. An extensive literature review increased knowledge about the problem and provided information about evidence-based support group programs. A search for potential funding resulted in the selection of the Hearst Foundation as the best funding source for this project. The actual submission of the proposal was not a requirement of this thesis project.
