The East Fork River in the Angeles National Forest has been directly and indirectly impacted by recreational activities and gold mining since the mid-1800s. Its close proximity to Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange County contributes to over one million visitors each year. Few studies have investigated the effects of anthropogenic activities on geomorphology, sensitive species habitat, and water quality in the Angeles National Forest. The East Fork River holds great ecological and community value including its effluent making up 30 percent of Los Angeles County's drinking water, containing several recreational sites for millions of people, and supporting several sensitive species such as the Santa Ana sucker, Speckled dace, and Yellow-Mountain Legged frog. This project aimed to spatially and temporally investigate geomorphic alterations, habitat quality for the federally threatened Santa Ana sucker, and water quality in an 16-mile stretch of the East Fork River. Field work consisted of a combination of stream condition inventories (SCI), Santa Ana Sucker habitat surveys, and water quality measurements.
