The Holocaust was an event that involved victims, perpetrators, bystanders and a few rescuers. Who were these people and how did they influence the Holocaust? In this book, "The Failure of Man and The Enigma of God's Silence," Dr. Moshe Avital presents penetrating questions and answers to shed light on how and why the Holocaust happened. He presents extraordinary testimony, bringing to light many unknown facts of the Holocaust era. Dr. Avital describes the policies, practices and responsibilities of the nations and individuals who were involved. The road to Auschwitz was built by hatred, but paved with indifference. The Holocaust tragedy encompasses theological, philosophical and psychological questions which Dr. Avital addresses, including the question of God's silence during the Holocaust. As a young boy of 14 who was shipped from his home in Czechoslovakia to a ghetto and from there to six of the most notorious concentration camps, and who lost most of his family of 13, Dr. Avital has much to tell and dwell upon. His observations and conclusions are delivered with poignancy and authority, supported by his firsthand experiences in the Holocaust and his educational background. Dr. Avital, a recognized authority in education, pursued his higher academic and Judaic studies at Yeshiva University where he graduated with honors and received a B.A. and M.S. in Education, and a Ph.D. in Hebrew Literature.
