Fantasy writer Vickie M. Briscoe's much-anticipated third novel, The Miscreant of Takkarrai, lays the groundwork for A Medallion Sundered and explores the misguided recklessness of avaricious greed. Returning to the Kingdom of Takkarrai, among the lord and ladies, as well as sorcerers of the Seven Coteries, a power-hungry wizard named Garrette enjoys success after success until he crosses an unimaginable line. He aligns himself to the court of the ruthless ruler Lord Rodelar, who then convinces the unconscionable Lord Rhlarte to assist with the plan to take control of the kingdom from King Alton. As the murderous duo attacks the lands from the north and the south, Garrette uses spells to wreak havoc and draw the kingdom into their frightening fray of corruption. King Alton's forces give their all to battle the nefarious lords and to prevent the capturing of the kingdom. Tragedy strikes close to home for King Alton's closest friend, Lord Arlyn. He loses two of his sons and his daughter, while his remaining son is put under a spell that traps him in the body of a black stallion. Battle lines are clearly drawn, though what Briscoe's characters find is that once an enemy is defeated, others take its place-and that the true folly of greed is that its destruction knows no mercy.
