He wanted those memories preserved. He especially wanted to preserve his stories of the Sandhills of Nebraska, his favorite of all the places he had lived. His ability to recall names, places, and dates was extraordinary. These recollections are therefore of value to historians (especially family historians), genealogists, and all lovers of 20th century history. George's life, like the century itself, spanned tremendous change, from leaving Kansas in horse drawn covered wagons through Americans landing on the moon.
