For my culminating project towards the completion of the MFA in Television, Film, and Theatre (TVFT)/Acting Option, I performed the role of Prior Walter in the Department of Theatre and Dance's production of Tony Kushner's Angels in America: Part I Millennium Approaches. Prior Walter's battle with the AIDS virus, his feelings of abandonment by his boyfriend, and a "voice" speaking to him are central story points to the play. The challenges of this role offered me the opportunity to utilize the tools learned over the past two years in this program.In this culminating project report, I will discuss my pre-production research for the role and the difficulties that emerged during the rehearsal process. Then, I will detail the progression of my acting over the course of the seven public performances followed by a reflection of my growth as a result of this project. Lastly, I will discuss the parallels between the fears and responses to the AIDS virus and the current COVID-19 pandemic.
