In September of 2019, I presented Threshold, an original theatre piece which explored how adult survivors of traumatic childhood experiences develop trauma responses of silence and repression: behaviors that reinforce white silence and white complicity in racism. The public presentation of Threshold was the final element of my culminating project in partial fulfillment of the MFA in Television, Film, and Theatre (TVFT), Acting Option at Cal State Los Angeles. Threshold was developed in collaboration with two other MFA TVFT Acting candidates, Adam Ferguson and Jeremiah Ripley, and directed by Cal State LA alumna Sophie Goldstein. This project report tracks the conception, development, rehearsal, and performance process of Threshold, including challenges that arose and the responses to those challenges, and concludes with reflection on knowledge and insight gained as a result of the process.
