In August, 1944 the Warsaw Uprising began. The home-made Polish army fought against well-equipped German occupiers for 62 days before surrendering. Twenty-two year old Stefania Frank was in the forefront of the Polish effort to reclaim the country. She worked as a medic, a grenade-maker, arms procurer, and messenger, all the while recording her impressions in a little red diary. She lived and worked with Polish insurgents while witnessing the total destruction of Warsaw and the murder of its 200,000 civilians. Finally, after surrendering she was transferred to three POW camps while Poland awaited its liberation by western armed forces. This is the incredible story of Stefania's life in the throes of Warsaw's fight for liberation from German tyranny and her fight to stay alive in German camps before being blessed with two little daughters and immigrating to the United States.
