"This is the first novel in the Holt and Dawson Adventure series. It's a distinct blending of two stories that come together to form a basis for the future series. It starts with Homeland Special Agent Akicita "Aki" Dawson hunting Dariya "Dar" Novikov, a Belarusian assassin and terrorist. Just as Aki believes she has Dar trapped in Germany; Dar manages to escape the net and creates havoc throughout Germany and Poland. At the same time, retired sheriff's Lt. Grayson "Gray" Holt is travelling to start a new job as a pilot with the Department of the Interior in Custer, South Dakota. He stops at a campsite in Devil's Tower, Wyoming, for a short vacation, and becomes involved in trying to solve two mysterious homicides. Because of his previous homicide investigative experience, he's offered a temporary position with Wyoming DCI, to assist in the investigation. Aki and her HSI partner, Colin Chase, find that they have been reassigned following the fiasco in Germany. Instead of disciplinary action, they are given command of a covert special unit within HSI, known as Target, Capture or Terminate, and soon they are on Dar's trail again. This time in South Dakota. After some otherworldly events occur in the Black Hills, Aki and Gray meet and find they are working toward a common goal and join forces. As they work together, they find that there is a lot more going on in the Black Hills than just the murders"--
