The Church year begins with Advent on December 1. St. Paul assures us that the Gentiles are welcomed into God's grace. Matthew describes the ministry and mission of John the Baptist. The third Sunday of Lent, we rejoice in the Lord's goodness. St. James reminds us to be patient during the time of waiting. Jesus speaks to John's followers when John is in prison. The fourth Sunday covers the Annunciation, including Isaiah's prophesy and Matthew's account. The four sets of Christmas readings include more prophesy, praise God for his mercy, and tell the story we all know and love of the birth of a baby boy in fulfillment of God's covenant with David. Rejoice for unto us a Savior is born, Jesus Christ the Lord. The Octave extends from Christmas Day through New Year's Day and includes the feast days for St. Stephen, St. John the Evangelist, Holy Innocents, Holy Family, and Mary Mother of God. We also read about Anna recognizing Jesus in the temple and receive warnings about the anti-christ who comes to lead the faithful to Hell. God loves you. Jesus died for you. He is risen!
