The Adventures of Postal Peep is a collection of five short stories about a chick named Postal Peep. The pages are fully illustrated and colorful. A Postal Peep coloring book is also available.Postal Peep is the creation of New Washington, Ohio resident Larry Beck. "Peep" represents the day-old chicks that were first shipped by train through the post office in 1900, when Michael Uhl sent 19 chicks to Canton, Ohio. The chicks arrived at their destination in fine condition, thus setting the starting point for large scale shipments. In 1915, a consignment of 3,600 chicks were sent to Wisconsin without a single loss. By 1917 a special chick star route from New Washington to Crestline had been formed to aid in getting the shipments of chicks to their destination in record time. At this time it was not unusual for two carloads with as many as 80,000 chicks to be shipped through the New Washington Post Office in one day. Because this part of the poultry industry had it's start here, New Washington is called the capital and birthplace of the baby chick industry.
