ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND HIS BOOKAnthony Noriega-Carranza is a committed trilingual writer and poet, whose literary goals convey the difficult search for success, love and happiness with a realistic nuance. His first book, Alma Mater I; poetry in three languages provided the framework for his saga of poetry, inspired his university life, love stories, and driven by romance and imagination. He is also the author of El Retrato del Fantasma, a collection of short stories in Spanish to appear in English next year. While studying success in life as a youngster, Noriega-Carranza was motivated to become a writer by the social affection for poets and writers, which has given him the inspiration to promote true love as a leitmotif in his poetic works. This book is also the outcome of a personal research on the metrics of Shakespeare's sonnets and various sound and tone studies in languages other than English to attain an imperfect yet magic rhythm in free verse and a decent level of rhyme where desirable. A small portion of this book was written in the desert in April 2016. All other poems were written in large cities, in cafes, while commuting by train, or in a public library, and poems were always inspired by real life and romance. At least two poems were written while traveling overseas a few years ago. Usually, it took him several hours to write, perfect, and translate a poem. The criteria and techniques used in writing poetry in English vary in comparison to other techniques used to write poetry in Spanish and French. In each language, the goal is to touch the heart of people in their respective culture and civilization, while trying to adjust the art of writing to today's global culture and its reception through social media.Indeed, Noriega-Carranza expects a much better interest and awareness of his literary writings and wishes to convey a message of peace and love where love is unlikely to be possible, distant or dormant; as André Bréton indicated "surreal is what is real" or le surréel c'est le réel, as per the original expression in French.Noriega-Carranza expects to publish Alma Mater III: Columba in 2020 and Alma Mater IV: Haiku of Love in 2021.
