Book ID: 502038 Title: Ambition of the fairer sex Summary: The woman with a haemorrhage, cured by faith As with the Shunammite, the name of the woman with a haemorrhage is not given, yet the story of her faith of indirect healing is recorded for eternity. It wasn't the garment which healed her, but her faith in Jesus. The story: as it was Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, had a similar faith to Elisha's benefactor, the Shunammite woman. He believed that if only Jesus would come to his daughter, He could raise her from the dead. Mark 5: 21 - 26. When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there, and when seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live." 24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.' On the way to Jairus' house, a woman reached out to touch Jesus. She was just someone in the crowd, yet a woman with such a great faith, knowing in her heart, all she had to do to be healed was to touch His clothes. Then, and only then, all her disgrace of 12 years would fall away. She may have seen the boat coming, watching and waiting, hoping against hope - this was her last chance of being able to worship again in the temple. She had given up hope with medicine of the day she knew that only Jesus could heal her. He was moving away! Overcoming her reticence and shyness, she pushed through the crowd, determined to grab this opportunity before it slipped from her reach. Mark 5: 27 - 29. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed." 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.' Free at last - no longer unclean she would be able to worship and praise the Lord God in the temple. Oh, what ecstasy! Wait, it wasn't over yet. The crowd was pressing her forward. She couldn't just slip away! Mark 5: 30 - 34. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?" 31 "You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, Who touched me?'" 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."' It was not the first time, people with disease had crowded around to touch Him so to be healed (Mark 3: 10), but it does not appear that he asked them to speak up, why did He ask this woman? At last, here was someone who treated her as a normal human being. He did not shun her at the smell of blood still on her clothes and her legs. She always smelt of old blood. No matter how much washing of her clothes, she could not rid herself of the stench. It was in her nostrils all the time. It surrounded her. She could see it on the face of anyone who came near her. They would have gasped, held they hands to their noses and turned away. Yet Jesus didn't mind! Someone cared. His kindness shone from His eyes. He didn't turn away. He actually sought her out. Did He need her to declare herself for complete healin
