AUTHOR'S PROFILE: Douglas Brown is the pen name of a well-known author of mystery and adventure stories and creator of The Shadow, who has also written many articles on noted figures of the American scene. He has combined these elements in this action-packed historical novel based on the actual lives and experiences of the most colorful figures in the latter-day saga of West Indian piracy. He began his career as a newspaper reporter in the Roaring Twenties and turned to feature writing, with articles widely syndicated throughout the country. In the 1930s he became a prolific author of mystery and detective stories.
