William Frederick Poole (1821-1894) was an American bibliographer and librarian. He was assistant librarian of the Boston Athenaeum in 1851, and in 1852 became librarian of the Boston Mercantile Library. From 1856 to 1869 he was librarian of the Boston Athenaeum. Poole was a pioneer in the public library movement. He was the first librarian of the Cincinnati Public Library from 1869 to 1873 and the first librarian of the Chicago Public Library from 1873 to 1887. Dr. George Buchanan (1763-1808) was the grandson of George Buchanan, the Scot who laid out Baltimore town in 1730. He received his M. B. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1785, and his M. D. in 1789. He was the founder of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland. On 4th July 1791 he gave the oration for which he is best known - Upon the Moral and Political Evil of Slavery.
