Description

I'm Michael Welch, author-drummer and creator of Boom Boom the Bass Drum. This is book number 7 in the Boom Boom series. I created this for educators/moms and dads as a launching pad for them to introduce learners to the music of The Beatles. I created the story from the February 9th, 1964 appearance of The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. There are (10) Illustrations that accompany the story. Kids love coloring these in my classrooms. They love hearing this music (not included) you can play from your own favorite Beatles tunes. Please check out the other Boom Boom books. Best regards, MW This is my story from the book, enjoy. Boom Boom and The Beatles Once upon a time, way back in 1964, I was the orchestra conductor of a television show. This was the most popular TV show in America on Sunday night. The host name was Ed, Ed Sullivan. He was quite a character. In 1964, American kids and teenagers were listening to this new music from England. Tommy Thomas was the drummer on the gig. He said you could hardly get to the theatre because there were so many kids in the street trying to get tickets to the show. He'd never seen this before. Kids were everywhere. He could hardly get to the stage door. When the curtains opened, I watched and listened from down in the orchestra pit to this 4-piece band from England. They were playing through these monster electric amplifiers. These guys were really funny looking with their mopped top long haircuts. The drummer was on a riser. On his bass drum, it said 'The Beatles." When they played during sound check, they were great. They could really sing and play their guitars and drums. It was louder than anything I'd ever heard, but really fantastic. During our break, before the live TV broadcast, I heard them talking to Ed with this unusual accent. They were very polite and professional. Their names were John, Paul, George and Ringo the drummer. When the show started, the kids couldn't wait to see and hear this band called The Beatles. It was wild and very loud. When he announced The Beatles were going to play for the first time on American TV, the kids started screaming. The Beatles were finally on stage playing their music to America. It was an amazing Sunday night. I remember the date, Sunday, February 9th, 1964.
