As early as the period of teenage, the composer Huang An-lun and Chang have made their mind that they would together create a Chinese cello concerto. Both of them were not only classmates of the primary and middle schools attached to the central conservatory of music, China, they had together also experienced the most difficult times as the Chinese musicians could have as their generation. Right on the most hopeful time toward success for these two talented boys, the culture revolution shut down all of the opportunities of education in the sixties of last century. Instead of the music, they had been sent to country side to work in the rice field for three years. Keeping the music dream, the finally completed their education and established achievement in this continent. A long way to go with much fires of enthusiasm, frustrations, tears and sweat ,sadness and excitement.... Suddenly, 3 decades have been past and the friendship, the music dream etc. are still there. They are all in the concerto:The 1st mov.: Moderato, Allegro assai: Follows a briefly asking typed introduction , the main theme of the 1st group with its long-breath-phrasing is led out. The main theme of 2nd group, with its meditation character, make a strong contract with the previous part of the movement. A virtuoso typed and profound cadenza brings a firm strides ending. The 2nd mov.: Andante cantabile: As the extend of the asking typed mind of the 1st movement, the main melody is sing continuously by the orchestra which surrounding by the freely-notes-stream of the cello solo. The B section comes a agitato theme before the 1st theme's back. Then the soloist lead the music fly to the heaven.Th 3rd mov.:Allegro ma non troppo: The main melody of the 1st group is a powerful and resolutely answer to the two previous movements. Although the long lined melodic line of the 2nd group crashes with the followed explosive motifs, but it's always confirmed by each recapitulation of the 1st group. As fixed attention and introspection, the trio section of this movement shins each other with the 2nd group, then push the whole concerto to a brilliant conclusion.
