Christmyths and the Birth of Christ is a study of the traditions, legends, and Scriptures about the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. This study grew from questions such as: Considering that the birth of Jesus was announced by angels at a location only about 5 miles from Jerusalem, why were the wise men unable to find anyone who had heard of the event? If Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus returned to Nazareth directly after visiting the Temple, how could the wise men visit them in a house in Bethlehem a year or so later?Christmyths examines the time line of the Biblical account, using ancient documents, history and Scripture to give the time of the actual birth. It considers an ancient curse against the line of the kings of Israel, as well as ancient prophecies that had significant impact. It looks at historical and Biblical accounts of heavenly signs, including the star. It considers the likely human responses of the people involved and the dilemmas some of them faced. An extensive footnote section gives additional information on a variety of related subjects such as numbers in the Bible, differences in present and Biblical calendars, differences in the spelling of names and the quoting of Scriptures, teachings on lost tribes and unused languages, and speculations regarding one or more forerunners or witnesses for the Messiah. Charts and maps, both black and white and color, illustrate the book. Extensive Scriptural references are used throughout.Christmyths was written to be easy reading for those with little Bible knowledge, to offer a spiritual challenge to the average Bible reader, and to provide something new even to those well versed in Scripture.
