This book is not the whole story! It starts with Cochran family immigrants to America in the 1700s and a glimpse of some of their direct descendants (Generations 1-3). Generations 4-6 in this book follow all non-living descendants of Dr. Joseph Lee Cochran (1820-1863), son of Robert and Agnes (McGinnis) McClellan, including his wives and their children and grandchildren. Living persons are not included. This book builds on the mighty labors of two pre-internet researchers and compilers, who produced sizeable family histories of these people, both labors of love and research: Barbara White Miller ("The Chronicles of the Blacks, the Linhards, the Borens, 1754-1991"), and Mary Tallent Cochran ("Cochran Family Genealogy," 2003). This book acknowledges and builds on their labors. Without them this book would not exist. But over time, gaps grew up between the related families. Later generations were only tenuously aware of cousins: Pittsburgh and Arizona Borens and descendants; North Carolina and Pennsylvania Cochrans and descendants; and Pennsylvania, Kansas, and California Fergus descendants. Two events that bind the families are the 6 June 1867 marriage of Jane Elizabeth Cochran and Thomas Wesley Boren in the aftermath of the Civil War (chapter 4), and the 2 December1880 marriage of Sarah Mary Lou Cochran and John S. Fergus (chapter 8). Those seeking documentation will find footnotes and sources conveniently on the page. For those looking for more, an every-name index is included.
