Cameron Woods, a Scottish veterinarian working in Australia , returns to his homeland to attend the World Small Animal Veterinary Conference in Edinburgh. Travelling alone he hopes to meet up with old university friends who have worked in the UK since graduating. He hopes to rekindle old friendships and catch up on their veterinary achievements and their personal triumphs and disasters. In particular he wants to meet up with Lydia Corrigan. She was married to Damien Corrigan a small animal vet from Liverpool who had committed suicide since they last met. He was hoping that she was managing to get on with her life after such a terrible tragedy. He also wanted to discuss Damien's suicide with other close friends, as he could not fathom what could have pushed Damien to depart this world by his own hand. Damien had recently sold his practice to "Noah's Ark Veterinary Hospital's" - a corporate veterinary group, owned by university friends Harry Ainsley and Randal Hollingsworth. Cameron assumed that Damien was happily setting up for retirement. He would have received a very nice lump sum form NAVH's for his practice. On his first night back in Edinburgh he soon finds out that Damien's death was likely precipitated by some extremely horrible circumstances. Money problems, blackmail and his wife being raped. These factors must all have added to Damien's turmoil...not to mention his daughter's prostitution and drug habits. The more Cameron hears from his friends, the more he becomes suspicious that Noah's Ark Veterinary Hospital's may well have added to Damien's woes.Harry Ainsley is a key speaker at the conference. He is loved by the masses but loathed by old friends. Randal Hollingsworth, Harry's partner seems to have lost the plot. He has separated from the beautiful Shona his wife of twenty-six years and is dating Belinda the NAVH's Financial Manager. Belinda by all accounts, although stunning to look at, could be a disciple of Charles Manson. She is not loved by anyone other than Randal and Harry. The business now owns over 120 small animal veterinary practices spread over the whole of the UK. NAVH's are growing ridiculously fast and becoming a power in the veterinary world. Harry and Randal are making millions. For Cameron this all just seems unreal. The more he digs, the more disappointed he becomes with his two old friends. They seem to have lost their ethics and their morals.Away from home Cameron's hormones are on overdrive and he finds some of his old uni friends extremely attractive. Some are very keen to get reacquainted...especially as his wife Alison is noticeably absent...still on the other side of the world. Jacqui Alcott, Cameron's ex from uni days, is desperate to make an impression and rekindle an old flame. Deirdre Micallef, the loveliest girl in the class of '85, melts Cameron's heart with revelations of her disastrous love life. Shona Hollingsworth, the most beautiful woman in the history of the world, now single after 26 years is just dying to catch up...Cameron's first night back in beautiful Edinburgh soon becomes an alcohol fuelled night of wild revelations, sex, drugs, rock and roll and murder. The pace is frenetic. The revelations are mind blowing. The climax will leave you stunned.
