But something sinister is at work that threatens to undermine the safety of the Institute, as well as its patients. The Loony Bin series tells the story of the people who live and work at the Institute and those affected by mental illness. Lack of mental health services and support render those who are mentally ill vulnerable to a system and a society that would much rather sweep the problem under the rug than address and resolve it. This should concern us all: any one of us could be one crisis away from lunacy. About the Author: ALEXANDRA WINTER has been a psychiatric nurse for over twenty years, and has worked in a variety of acute care mental health facilities with both adult and child/adolescent populations. After attaining her master's degree in the field and her doctorate in education, she devoted herself to teaching the nurses of tomorrow, and continues to fight the status quo and elevate mental health parity for all.
