There are two dimensions to our learning more about the field of urban planning from other countries: comparative studies and evaluations of the cross-national transfer of planning knowledge. Evaluation of the transfer of knowledge provides us with the understanding of how this transfer might be appropriately conducted and the difficulties experienced during the process. This book contains both - a comparative study as well as an evaluation of the transfer of knowledge. It is a result of co-operation between China and Sweden in the field of urban planning. The book is organised around three themes: (i) an overall picture of urban planning in China and Sweden; (ii) an analysis of the ongoing planning process in the Shuangtashan district in the municipality of Chengde and the Beckomberga-Husarviken districts in the municipality of Stockholm; (iii) an evaluation of the planning experience and knowledge shared between Chinese and Swedish urban planning specialists with respect to the planning of these districts.
