The research undertakes a preliminary survey and interviews, which indicate that regulation and reformed institutional structures are fundamental in the pursuit of an efficient European capital market. The study attempts to identify what changes are likely to impact on Member State capital markets and whether or not they will become fully integrated. To integrate capital markets a regulatory structure that applies to each Member State will need to be constructed. There are a number of ways of achieving this and one may argue that mutual recognition can provide the main impetus, however, for this to be there needs to be initial harmonisation.
