Abstract: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether students would show positive behavior and attitude changes toward the environment and civic engagement after they participated in a thirty-hour community service learning art program. Data collected from the program in the forms of a pre-test post-test instrument, written essays, and weekly log were analyzed to determine if student behavior and attitude had changed. Students participated in the following service learning experiences: a marine habitat aquarium tour; a wetland restoration; a beach clean-up; and a visit to a recycling center. In the classroom, students reflected on what was learned by creating wetland birds out of recycled newspaper and paper mache. Analysis of the quantitative data, although positive, could not prove statistical significance. However, the qualitative analysis found that the overall program had a positive affect on student attitude toward the environmental issues. As a result, recommendations were made for future studies.
