'Dreaming of Her Volume 1' is a collection of love poems written by James C. Matthews Jr. and is the first publication of a two volume series of the love poems written by James during 2011 while James was living in the New York City homes shelter system after he had just finishing his Bachelor of Arts Degree Program at the School of Visual Arts in New York City that end at the end of December 2010. Starting in January of 2011 James began a series of multiple surgeries on his body that followed with long physical therapy treatments. This was all due to James being hit by a New York City MTA bus in October of 2010 at the corner of 14th Street and 3rd Avenue when the bus ran a red light and hit James while he was in the cross walk. Due to this James was forced to live in a homeless shelter in New York City. James had to be out of the homeless shelter by 9:00 am and would end up drink coffee or a hot tea at the Starbucks at the 14th Street Union Square Park until his therapy session started. Here he would write a poem for the day and take pictures of the light and shadows surrounding the park and post them on his Facebook wall 'HER' is a layered title used in James' poetry that is symbolic of the female spirit and form as portrayed in the history of the world and as represented in James' personal experiences, desires, fantasies, and hopes with girls and women throughout his life with girls and women from around the world. For James 'Her' is an organic and living symbol of the complicities and the contradictions that embody the female spirit and form in James's writings and poetry. - Colivn James
