The author used Mark 4:28, "For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that thefull corn in the ear", to name this book. He has sought to provide children with "'ears' of counsel, 'ears' of warning, 'ears' of exhortation, and 'ears' of sound doctrine", to the benefit of young gleaners searching for the truth.
